let's get something to eat. I'm thirsty.

Lucy and Desi ca. 1940s.

Magazine photographers were always posing the Arnazes in domestic situations. Here we can see Desi looking at his wife preparing a meal, but in reality it was Desi who was the real cook in the Arnaz household.

The Arnazes Vaudeville Act they performed in 1950 to convince CBS that America would love them as a couple.

What they were doing onstage, brought us I Love Lucy. What they were doing off the stage brought us… Lucie Arnaz.

The “Cuban Pete & Sally Sweet” number Lucy and Ricky perform was taken straight from the tour Lucy and Desi did in 1950, as a way to show and convince CBS that the American public wouldn’t find it hard to believe that American-born Lucy was married to a Cuban. Even Lucy’s green Sally Sweet outfit is the same as in the original act, feathered hat, sequined purse, and all.

#11 → The meaning behind the Arnazes’ second wedding

“We had been married for nine years but when I saw her coming down the aisle with her bouquet and wedding dress and hat, I got as much of a thrill as the first time, perhaps even more.” - Desi Arnaz

Day 18 → Favourite scheme: The Professor (The Audition Show, season 1)

“The Professor” bit was conceived by close family friend, Pepito Perez for the Arnazes Vaudeville Tour, when they tried to convince the CBS that people would accept their marriage. Note that Lucille Ball performs it perfectly due to the repeated performances on the road.

The Arnazes and I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR! :3 Don’t you wish we were ringing in 1942 instead of 2012? Oh well… Have a happy New Year anyway! Thanks for sticking with me during this little bit of 2011 and see you in 2012 with more Lucy love! <3

Amen to that :D <3
